Canady for Court
Better is on the Horizon!
Caring. Committed. Competent.
Welcome, and thank you for visiting my website!
Rae Canady
Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge, Department 5
About Me
I was born and raised in the midwest, the youngest of four girls. My parents met and fell in love in the 1960's. An interracial couple, they married the same year the US Supreme Court decided Loving v. Virginia. My parents grounded me and my sisters in community, emphasized the importance of helping others, and instilled in us a strong desire to seek justice.

Through hard work and family support, I earned two undergraduate degrees, one in Psychology and one in Sociology, from the University of Michigan. I then went on to earn a master's degree in Social Work, also from the University of Michigan. Shortly after I began my social work career, I started my legal studies. After five years of working full-time and attending classes part-time on nights and weekends, I graduated from Marquette University Law School with a Juris Doctor.

In my 26 year career, I have served in a variety of helping roles, including case manager, psychotherapist, child custody evaluator, grant reviewer, trial attorney, child advocate, mediator, and court administrator.
Why I'm Running
I'm a former Las Vegas Municipal Court administrator, so I know firsthand that we can and must do better for our community. I'm running for Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge to create a community-centered court that is transparent, innovative, fiscally-responsible, and efficient; a place where the inherent dignity of every human is honored, and everyone is treated fairly and respectfully. Municipal courts should be friendly places where everyone has access to justice and they get the help they need to become productive citizens.
Caring. I fell in love with Las Vegas the moment I first visited in the mid-90s, and my dream of living here came true in 2014. I adore this city, and I care deeply about the health, safety, and prosperity of everyone in our community.
Committed. Being a public servant is a privilege, and I understand that it means I work for you. And I'm committed to public service in every aspect of my life. I give back to our community by delivering meals to home-bound elders, participating in neighborhood clean-ups, engaging in community empowerment events, and volunteering with Three Square and The LGBTQ Center of Southern Nevada.
Competent. With my extensive education and over 25 years of real-world experience as a social worker, educator, trial attorney, mediator, advocate, and court administrator, I have what it takes to champion the effective solutions that the court and our community needs and deserves.

Dani Eicher, Veteran and Advocate, NV
"This incredible soul has my vote because I know her decisions will be based on precedent, critical thinking, and compassion."
Irene Parthum, Former Prosecutor, WI
"When she was a public defender, I found her to be smart, ethical, and dedicated to the law and her indigent clients. As a prosecutor, I knew she was someone who did not play games and kept her word. She was a devoted public servant and I am confident she would serve Nevada as a judge with distinction."
Brionne Dade, Performer, NV
"Your interview touched me. I have never voted before, but I will now because of what you said.”
